About UsIt all began in 2001, thanks to mutual friends and a chance meeting. Sally Free and Lia Plasier - the namesakes behind the now thriving business, Salia Original Jewellery - were both invited to a friend's wedding. Seated together at the reception, they soon discovered they had more in common than just the bride and groom. According to Sally, the story is one of friendship, where each brings out the best in the other. “Lia was living in a seaside community near Hervey Bay and regularly travelled to Brisbane for tertiary study. Making a detour to visit me and my family on the Sunshine Coast, broke up what was a long journey, and it was on these occasions that I noticed that Lia wore the most exquisite jewellery in designs that were unlike anything else I had ever seen before, Sally said. When Sally asked her where she bought her perfectly coordinated earrings, necklaces and bracelets, Lia confessed that she made them herself, quickly adding “but only for family and friends." From this point on, Lia's visits served a new purpose as the two shared jewellery making skills and design ideas. Lia soon realised that Sally was also innately creative and each complemented the other's experience in quality jewellery-making techniques and Sally's fresh ideas and artistic flair. The pair soon created a stunning assortment of original hand-made jewellery pieces which they shyly presented to friends and neighbours in the first tentative steps of a formalised business entity, Salia Original Jewellery. But they need not have been nervous, the response was overwhelming. The women buying the jewellery were impressed by the originality of the design, but even more so by the quality of each carefully made piece. Many of those early customers are now valued regular clients, who commission jewellery for special occasions, to coordinate with outfits or to be given as gifts. For Sally and Lia, Salia Original Jewellery is all about making people feel special by creating a piece as unique as the person wearing it. A piece that will be cherished always. Salia Original Jewellery retails classic, elegant and original hand-made jewellery from Sally's property in Tanawha on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. It's from here, that Sally and Lia source quality and often unusual specialist items from suppliers around the world including pearls, a kaleidoscope of semi-precious stones, sterling silver, vermeil (ver-may) which is sterling silver covered in 24 karat gold. |
